Bindon Bowlers Are The Champs

After more than four hours of intense, exciting and action packed bowling at Planet Ennis (formally Clare Leisure Centre) Bindon Bowlers were crowned Clare Business Bowling Champions for 2015.

Thirty five teams, representing all aspects of business and industry in the Mid West region, participated in the championship, which has been running since 2007, and is sponsored by AIB Ennis.

The Bindon Bowlers team, representing Michael Houlihan & Partners, Solicitors, Bindon Street, Ennis, was lead to victory by team captain Lina Tedenback who together with her work colleagues Paul Tuohy, Paddy Reilly and Joe Shannon pulled out all the stops in the final round – and scored a very credible 458 pins in the process, to overcome strong challenges from Team Toyota Touch and the  Waterpark Four team.

The line up for the Toyota Touch team, who represented Cummins Car Centre, Gort Road, Ennis, was Rory McAllister team captain, Alan Cummins, Damien Pilkington and Jason Cummins. They hung on to finish in second place with a final score of 438 pins just ahead of Clare County Council’s Waterpark Four team of Tommy Scott, Carl Hale, Kieran Walsh and JJ Counihan, who finished in third place with 435 pins.

In 4th place –  on a well earned break from the news desk, were the Clare People with 382 pins.  Roche Ireland, Clarecastle was 5th with 380 pins while Powder Puff Beauty Salon, from the Lahinch Road, held onto 6th place with a score of 373 pins. The Old Ground Hotel was 7th on 347 pins and in 8th place was another Clare Co. Council team on a score of 319 pins.

Carl Hale, Clare County Council was the championship’s top scorer with 150 pins, followed closely by Alan Cummins, Toyota Touch on 144 pins.  The first round losers section was won by Wolfpack from Butternut Scrim Pits in second place with Gryffindors bringing up the rear in third place.

The Business Bowling championship is organised and run by the Ennis Phoenix Twinning Board as a fundraiser for their annual Ennis Youth Ambassador programme.  This programme offers an opportunity to second level students from Ennis to participate in an exchange with students from Phoenix, Arizona each year as Youth Ambassadors. The programme has been a very popular initiative in cementing the twinning relationship between Ennis and Phoenix over the years. Since 1988 over one hundred second level students have participated in the annual exchange between Ennis andPhoenix.
