Twinning Charter Home For Phoenix Week

Ennis Phoenix Twinning Charter

The Twinning Charter drawn up in 1988 when the Council of Ennis and the Council of the City of Phoenix proclaimed the twinning of the municipalities of Ennis and Phoenix will be returning to Ennis in time for Phoenix Week and the 25th anniversary twinning celebrations which are scheduled to take place over the St Patrick’s weekend.

Signatures to the Charter which is written in both Irish and English, were Ann Arthur O’Brien, Chairman, Urban Ennis District Council and Councilman Howard Adams on behalf of the City of Phoenix

The Charter states that both Ennis and Phoenix “firmly believe that this Twinning will help promote exchanges of a cultural, tourist, social and economic nature, of interest to all members of both communities”.  It went on to add that “The Municipals Councils of Ennis and Phoenix solemnly declare their intentions to develop understanding, mutual respect and friendship between the peoples of Ennis and Phoenix”

The Ennis Phoenix Twinning Board acknowledge the role played by Paula West, Executive Director, Phoenix Sister City in returning the Charter, which had been on display at the Sister City Office in Phoenix City Hall in Arizona since 1988, to Ennis.
